ABOUT US:
Bernick’s is a 5th generation family-owned provider of beverages, vending and food solutions, representing leading brands such as Pepsi, Mtn Dew, Bubbl’r, Dr Pepper, Miller Brewing Company and New England Coffee. We service locations in greater MN and western WI.
The Creative Services Manager is responsible for the establishment and implementation of creative design, promotional pieces and printing operations that support Bernick’s brands, programs and promotions in all channels of business. They manage a team of Graphic Designers, a Production Designer, a Production Specialist, and an on-site print shop including a full suite of printing equipment and materials. This position serves internal & external customers through the development of branded tools & training, retail programs and promotions, key account support, sponsorships, events, media programs and more. The Creative Services Manager acts as a thought leader in current creative and design trends, and technology advancements in the design and creative field. They also provide creative feedback and support to the Creative team and contribute as a Graphic Designer as needed.
Core Responsibilities:
Team Member Management & Development
- Oversee the hiring, training and development of the creative team.
- Create team member development goals, manage performance, professionally coach/mentor, recognize/reward.
- Maintain a culture which supports learning and continuous improvement.
Process Management & Training
- Manage the creative work request process including submission tool, scheduling/capacity, performance, goals and training.
- Manage and meet work request deadlines; communicate issues to key stakeholders.
- Assess and monitor creative processes; propose improvements as needed. Look for opportunities to add value and increase efficiency.
- Act as liaison with cross-functional teams (marketing, sales, etc.) to determine larger project scope and deliverables (including prioritization, goals, budget, design direction, etc.), and communicate as needed to creative team.
- Oversee all aspects of creative including digital assets and organization, concepts, artwork, materials, equipment, quality, accuracy, production, and brand standards.
- Concept development, design and execution of printed and visual graphics including printed materials (banners, fliers, posters, menus, etc.), digital images, web graphics, billboards, ads, invitations, logos, apparel and other collateral across multiple business divisions, customer accounts and locations. Provide training to staff for creative innovation in terms of design aspects, elements, fonts, materials, etc.
- Prepare training materials and processes as needed for creative team and teams utilizing creative services. Deliver training as needed.
Creative Innovation & Customer Satisfaction
- Provide design and creative excellence through analyzing the needs of the organization, analyzing innovations in materials and equipment. Obtain feedback from sales team / customers; analyze competitors in the market; research and propose new materials. Look for opportunities to add value, increase impact in the market through internal and external POS, creative displays, and graphic treatments.
- Provide outstanding customer service and support to internal and external customers. Collaborate with and support all lines of business to create materials and creative displays that drive results & achieve goals.
- Offer billable services to external partners, suppliers and bottlers as requested.
- Develop and maintain Bernick’s style guide; monitor and upholds Bernick’s brand standards.
Budgets / Equipment & Supply Management
- Prepare & provide overhead analysis & costs as well as creative team budgets. Includes monthly analysis and annual budget planning.
- Manage and maintain all creative team equipment including large and wide-format printers, cutting machines, finishing tools, etc. Includes purchase, warranties, maintenance/support, troubleshooting, replacements, installation & training. Engage external service as needed.
- Manage and maintain all creative team printed materials, inks, etc. Conduct market analysis to understand price, value and competition.
- Research new creative and printing techniques; equipment and materials to support. Obtain competitive quotes, negotiate pricing. Provide recommendations to leadership for capital expenditures & approval. Work with IT to manage/maintain computers, hardware and software.
- Develop strategic partnerships and maintain relationships with externally sourced vendors including equipment, service & materials.
Strong candidates have:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Design, Advertising or related field, 5+ years of design experience and 3+ years in a supervisor/management position.
- Proficiency in the Adobe Suites design programs including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and the Microsoft Suite of business tools including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Teams.
- Professional written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate teams to produce results within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
- Ability to manage and lead the Creative Team as well as contribute as a Graphic Designer. Handles overflow, work assignments, understands capacity and other duties as assigned. Can perform all duties and understands all roles within Creative Department.
- Strong design skills. Strong project management skills.
- Ability to contain and analyze performance data to develop metrics that support decision making and resource allocation.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and staff to create a result driven, team-oriented environment.
- Creative, detail oriented, highly organized, critical thinker, solves problems, makes decisions, implements processes.
- Strong interpersonal skills – build and maintain positive relationships with internal team, customers and external partners.
HOURS: Full-time
- Monday-Friday, 8:00AM – 5:00PM or completion
- Works primarily in office setting, occasionally outdoors in market with varying weather conditions.
- Travel for in person meetings with team members, customers and/or partners to develop relationships or manage projects as needed.
